Around the Block

It was an otherwise unremarkable weekday morning in early May. I was most likely sipping a Red Bull and going outside for my second or third cigarette of the day by 8 a.m. I remember it was a cloudless blue sky with wisps of fog scattered about just above my head, at the top of the valley. It felt like it was going to be a good day.
