Sacramento, California – On Memorial Day, the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, located at 1515 J Street, will open its doors for a free event from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 27.

“We are honored to open the doors of this historic venue to the community,” said Matthew Voreyer, general manager of the Memorial Auditorium. “Join us as we pay tribute to the Sacramento citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”

The ceremony will begin with the raising of the American flag on the auditorium’s front steps, followed by a tribute from the honor guard, organized by the Sacramento Veterans Affiliated Council. Following the outdoor activities, guests are invited to explore the auditorium during an open house featuring patriotic music played on the historic Estey Municipal Organ.

Additionally, the auditorium’s chimes will play the national anthem every hour from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., a tribute made possible by the American War Mothers. There is no need for guests to RSVP or register beforehand.

First opened in 1927, the Memorial Auditorium stands as a lasting memorial to local veterans. It recently underwent renovations in 2019, which included the installation of new seating, enhanced lighting, better acoustics, and other improvements.
