Sauk County Board appoints new positions, welcomes Administrator

It was a relatively quick Sauk County Board meeting this month, with the board approving several requests, including those to create new positions within departments.

Trout Unlimited spoke to the Black Earth Village Board at their September meeting about potential improvements to the stretch of Black Earth Creek running through, and adjacent to, the village.

Prairie du Sac’s Riverwalk Park construction delayed

The Village Board of Prairie du Sac elected to give G Pro Excavating & Landscaping a one month extension to complete work on the Riverwalk Park. The work was planned to be completed by September 30, and now must be done by October 30. G Pro had asked for an extension to November 30.

Mazomanie holding open house on updated comprehensive plan

The Village of Mazomanie will host an open house on a proposed amendment and update to the Village comprehensive plan from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, at the Community Building, 9 Brodhead St.

Mazomanie not charging late fees on utility bills because it would cost the village money

The Village of Mazomanie has elected to not charge late fees on delinquent utility bills. Come November, however, the late utility bill will be passed on to the resident’s tax bill by the county. This was discussed at the board’s September 28 meeting.

The Village of Prairie du Sac board heard the first of several budget summaries at its September 22 meeting.

The Black Earth Library Board held a meeting that--although it could not perform its intended actions--still filled in board members and the public about a complaint by Village Administrator Shellie Benish against Library Director Carolyn Shaffer.

Village of Arena reviews audit of last year’s finances

At the September meeting of the Arena Village Board, the board approved the consent agenda parts B and C, and withheld part A at the request of trustee Paul Pustina for separate approval.  Part A included the minutes of the August 4 and special August 18 meetings.  Pustina asked a question on the August 18 meeting, then it was approved.

COVID-19 forced a congressman to try something new to interact with the media.

Rep. Mark Pocan, a democrat representing the second congressional district, recently held a virtual meeting to discuss current issues and projects affecting Sauk and Iowa counties.

Black Earth fills two vacant board seats

The Village of Black Earth has two new trustees, filling vacancies initially caused by Pat Troge’s resignation in the winter and Matt Kahl filing the Public Works Director position. Jared Brammerson and Scott Patchin will serve until next April, when the seats go up for election.
