Village of Arena meets in person for first time since Safer-At-Home order

The Arena Village Board met at village hall in June after holding meetings via teleconference the past two months because of the covid-19 pandemic. Board members wore masks for the most part. 

Sauk County Board approves COVID-19 task force, new leadership position

Proposals affecting both the immediate and long-term futures of Sauk County were approved by the Board of Supervisors last week.

Among items given the go-ahead were the creation of a COVID-19 task force and a county administrator position.

At their April meeting, the Village of Mazomanie chose to look into a flood control berm at the corner of Hudson and Cramer Streets. After examination by an engineer, that berm will not be built.

County Board appoints new supervisor, chooses official newspaper

The Sauk County Board is full again following the regular May meeting.

Supervisors voted unanimously to appoint Michelle Bushweiler to the District 21 seat, which was vacated by Chuck Spencer. Spencer, who announced his resignation in late April, did not give a reason for his departure.

Mazo looks into flood control at Hudson and Cramer

The Village of Mazomanie decided to look into a flood control berm at their April meeting. They will spend $3500 to examine whether a three foot berm near Hudson and Cramer Streets will be viable, and avoiding the extensive permitting process required for more advanced flood control.

Former Arena clerk files complaint about text messages

A former Arena village clerk filed a complaint against the village last Wednesday with Iowa County Circuit Court Judge Margaret Koehler who issued a temporary injunction in response. The complaint sought to stop the destruction of text messages following passage of an ordinance declaring that text messages aren’t public records.

Prairie du Sac Utilities earns American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence

Prairie du Sac Utilities, the Village of Prairie du Sac’s locally owned, not-for-profit electric service provider, recently earned the American Public Power Association’s Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2019. The utility earned a first place designation.

McCumber named new Sauk County Board Chair

There’s a new head at the table for the Sauk County Board.

Tim McCumber of Merrimac won the most votes to serve as the new chair. He takes over for Peter Vedro of Baraboo, who was not re-elected.

Attorney General won’t pursue criminal investigation of Sauk County personnel

An ongoing investigation involving the Sauk County Board, county staff and the Attorney General’s office has come to an end.
