County Executive Joe Parisi announced Dane County will purchase 14.6 acres of property in the Town of Black Earth located on Black Earth Creek, south of State Highway 14. The acquisition will fill in a connection between Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Black Earth Creek Fishery Area lands.

The Dane County Highway & Transportation Department and representatives of the Village of Cross Plains have determined the County Highway KP Bridge over Black Earth Creek is in need of reconstruction. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in July and will result in about a two-month closure of the bridge in Cross Plains.
Dane County Land & Water Resources is planning a stream restoration project on Black Earth Creek as it flows through Walking Iron County Park and Lions Park in the Village of Mazomanie.
