Editor:

My heartfelt thanks to all who made the Help Excite Little People (H.E.L.P.) project a success.  The many donations of new and good used toys, and items for teens, were greatly appreciated.

Our special thanks to:

changing worlds

Sometimes I enjoy contrasting and comparing two books I’m reading around the same time, especially when I plan to feature both in this column.

Yesterday evening, my daughter was video chatting with my mother when I called from my hiding place that it was time for bed.

“Oh, Matthew!” my mom said. “There you are. I didn’t see you there, behind the couch.”

“Hi, Mom,” I said. “Hadley, go brush your teeth and hop into bed, okay?”

Many of us have seen ads for lost pets.  Some are short and simple while others go into great detail.    You may see rewards offered or compelling phrases such as “heartbroken child” or “needs medicine”, to convey the sense of loss and the hope of being reunited with the lost animal.

Help farmers enjoy an evening of laughter

We all recognize the stress of farming recently. You will see in the news so many different articles on stress, depression, suicidal thoughts with no energy to work for the farming community. According to John Shutske, a professor and UW-Madison Extension agricultural safety and health specialist.

Our daughter wanted bunk beds for ages. She loved the idea of having a guest bed in her room, and she was intrigued by the fact that it’s essentially a fort frame that’s ready to turn into a ship or a castle at any moment. There is also an undeniable primal safety to sleeping six feet off the ground.
