Sauk Prairie’s tennis team falls in opener

The end result wasn’t what they wanted.

But Sauk Prairie’s girls’ tennis team was just thrilled to be back on the court last Tuesday, while several teams across the area are sitting out the fall season out due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.

Sept. 25 vs. Baraboo 7 p.m.

Oct. 2 at Reedsburg 7 p.m.

Sauk Prairie wins Award of Excellence

Sauk Prairie High School was among the 46 schools named recipients of the Award of Excellence in 2019-20 by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Off and running

It had been a long five months since Sauk Prairie High School last participated in a live sporting event.

The lengthy wait is finally over.

The Eagles hosted Baraboo in a girls swimming meet on Aug. 25. And as enjoyable as Sauk Prairie’s 93-76 win was, getting back in the water was just as fun.

Heights punts on fall sports: Steiner knows football will face challenges


Wisconsin Heights voted Monday to move football from fall to the spring.

In a normal year, Wisconsin Heights football coach Trevor Steiner and his Vanguards would have three weeks of practice under their collective belts by now.

Heights would have already played its first game. And the Vanguards would be in the midst of a fall certain to create a lifetime of memories.

Friday night lights will have to wait.

The soccer pitch will be empty. So will the cross country trails.

The Wisconsin Heights school board voted Monday to push all fall sports to the spring due to concerns regarding COVID-19.

The great Jerry Seinfeld once uttered that famous line while flying first class and sitting next to a super model. Nearly three decades later, that mantra was still applicable to high school sports in Wisconsin.

Eagles’ coaches excited to get started

Andy Sherman was experiencing a bevy of emotions Monday morning.

Sauk Prairie’s boys and girls cross country coach was thrilled that a new season was starting. The beginning of fall sports marked the first WIAA event since winter sports were halted on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
