Sacramento, California – Sacramento is getting ready to turn community pride into something residents can see, touch, and enjoy. A new citywide campaign is inviting neighbors to roll up their sleeves, get outdoors, and help make their city a cleaner, greener place.
And it all starts with a few hours of volunteer work in the heart of downtown Sacramento.
The City of Sacramento is introducing Love 916, a community beautification initiative designed to bring residents, local businesses, and organizations together to improve public spaces. The campaign will officially launch on Saturday, November 7, 2026, with a volunteer event at Cesar Chavez Park.
The kickoff will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, with participants gathering at 910 I Street. Volunteers will spend the morning improving the park through several hands-on activities, including planting annual flowers, spreading mulch, and picking up litter.
The three-hour event marks the beginning of a broader effort to encourage community involvement in maintaining and improving Sacramento’s neighborhoods.
Rather than focusing on a single cleanup day, Love 916 aims to create additional opportunities for residents to contribute to the appearance and upkeep of their surroundings.
The initiative brings together several organizations and community partners. They include Niagara Cares, Keep California Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful, Sacramento’s Department of Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment (YPCE), and Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes.
Their collaboration is intended to make it easier for people to participate in projects that benefit local parks, streets, and neighborhood spaces.
The city’s message is straightforward. Residents do not need to take on major projects to make a meaningful contribution. Planting flowers, collecting litter, or helping maintain a neighborhood park can all play a part in improving the community.
Love 916 also creates an opportunity for businesses and community groups to work alongside residents toward a shared goal.

The city has indicated that additional events and volunteer opportunities will follow in neighborhoods throughout Sacramento, although specific dates and locations for those activities have not yet been announced.
For now, the focus is on the upcoming Saturday morning gathering at Cesar Chavez Park.
With community partners involved and more projects planned, Sacramento officials hope Love 916 will encourage residents to take an active role in caring for the public spaces they share.
The campaign begins with three hours of planting, mulching, and cleaning. Its larger goal is to carry that neighborhood spirit well beyond November 7.
