Sacramento, California – The FBI’s Sacramento Field Office is sounding the alarm about a dangerous extortion scheme targeting people with family or business ties to India.
In their 34-county jurisdiction, the FBI is tracking several cases where individuals have been targeted with demands for money and threats of violence. This criminal activity, which is believed to be underreported, has prompted the FBI and its law enforcement partners to call on the public to report these incidents so those responsible can be brought to justice.
Victims are pressured for large sums of money and threatened with death or violence if they don’t comply. Those who have ignored these demands have faced violent retaliation, including shootings aimed at their homes and vehicles.
