City of Sacramento invites residents to shape safety upgrades along Fruitridge Road and Arden Way through back-to-back community meetings

Sacramento, California – Sacramento city officials are inviting residents to take part in a pair of March workshops designed to guide major transportation improvements along two of the city’s most heavily traveled corridors: Fruitridge Road and the Arden-Auburn area.

The City of Sacramento has launched two separate planning efforts — the Fruitridge Road Safety and Mobility Plan and the Arden-Auburn Mobility Plan — both aimed at making key streets safer and more accessible. Each plan focuses on corridors that are part of the city’s Vision Zero High Injury Network, a designation given to streets with the highest number of severe crashes involving people walking, biking and driving.

Transportation Planning Manager Chris Dougherty said the corridors serve as vital links for neighborhoods, schools and local businesses. Through these efforts, the city intends to reduce serious injuries and fatalities while expanding safe travel options. Just as importantly, officials say community input will directly shape the recommendations that emerge from the process.

The Fruitridge Road Safety and Mobility Plan centers on the stretch between Riverside Boulevard and Stockton Boulevard. This east-west corridor plays a critical role in connecting residents to schools, parks, transit and small businesses. Because it is part of the High Injury Network, safety improvements are a top priority.

City planners will develop design concepts and cost estimates as part of the effort, but first they are asking residents to share their experiences. A community workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Sacramento New Technology High School, located at 1400 Dickson Street. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project and provide feedback that could influence future design proposals.

A week later, attention will shift to the Arden-Auburn corridor. The Arden-Auburn Mobility Plan takes a broader look at how people move through Arden Way — from Del Paso Boulevard to Ethan Way — as well as Auburn Boulevard and Harvard Street, from Marconi Circle to Arden Way. These corridors connect neighborhoods to jobs, shopping centers, entertainment venues, transit routes and schools, making them central to daily life for many residents.

Beyond improving safety, the Arden-Auburn plan will explore ways to expand walking, biking and transit access. City officials also intend to examine how transportation upgrades can support future housing and job growth while improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Arden-Auburn community workshop will be held Wednesday, March 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Reason Center, 1300 Ethan Way, Suite 675. Participants are encouraged to share their priorities and help define the goals that will guide the planning process.

City leaders expect both initiatives to move steadily forward over the next two years. By spring 2027, Sacramento plans to produce conceptual designs for high-priority improvements, along with a ranked list of proposed projects. Officials also intend to provide a clear summary detailing how public feedback influenced the final recommendations.

For residents who live, work or travel along Fruitridge Road or in the Arden-Auburn area, the March workshops represent an early opportunity to help shape changes that could define the corridors for years to come.
