Sacramento, California – The Youth Resource & Employment Fair is coming back on Saturday, March 7. It will give Sacramento teens and young adults looking for work a direct access to employers, training programs, and city resources.
The City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment Department is putting on the free event at New City Hall, 915 I St., from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The fair is for teens and young adults aged 13 to 24. It gives them a place to meet face-to-face with recruiters and program leaders, whether they are looking for their first job or preparing for a long-term career.
City officials say the idea is simple: bring all the opportunities together. Kris Wimberly, the Recreation Superintendent for Youth Workforce Development operations, highlighted that young people want to work and lead when they can see how to do it easily.
“Young people are ready to work, lead and build their futures when they have access to real opportunities,” said Wimberly. “This fair brings employers, training programs and City resources together in one place so our youth can take practical steps toward their goals.”
The event is meant to assist people make real progress toward getting a job and building a career by bringing together employers, educators, and city workers in one place.
More than 30 vendors are likely to show there. Local businesses, banks, college and trade school reps, and military recruiters are all on the list. Attendees will be able to look into a lot of different options like seasonal jobs, long-term career paths, internships, and stipend-based programs given by the City of Sacramento.
The fair’s goal is to help people become ready for the employment process, not just give them job leads. A professional headshot station will be set up to help young people improve their resumes and internet profiles. A fashion gallery will also show attendees what to wear to an interview so they can feel good about themselves when they meet with potential employers.
There will also be information about city services like summer camps, swimming lessons, and Landscape & Learning projects. The goal of these programs is to give young people skills, real-world experience, and a chance to learn about other career fields.
Registration on site starts at 9:15 a.m., and the doors open at 9:30 a.m. The deadline for signing up is 11:15 a.m., and the event ends at noon. People who sign up will get a free swag bag while supplies last.
To make attendance easier, Sacramento Regional Transit is partnering with the city to provide free rides for participants who show the event flyer. Additional details are available by contacting [email protected].
