Sacramento, California – A deadly shooting investigation is underway in Sacramento County after an early-morning call sent deputies to a Motel 6 on Elsie Avenue.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said that the call came into the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at about 1:30 a.m. on June 9, 2026. The message was brief and urgent: someone had been shot inside the lobby of the Motel 6 located at 7407 Elsie Ave. Deputies were dispatched to the business and arrived to find a 21-year-old man in the lobby with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Deputies moved quickly. They began life-saving measures at the scene and requested assistance from the Fire Department. Fire personnel arrived soon after, but the victim could not be saved. He was pronounced deceased at the motel.

The suspect had already fled before deputies reached the location, according to the Sheriff’s Office. No additional details about the suspect were released in the provided information.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the motel as the investigation moved into its next stage. The lobby, once the center of a quiet overnight call, became the focus of a homicide scene as investigators worked to determine what happened before the shooting, who was involved, and where the suspect went after leaving the area.

The Sheriff’s Office said the case remains active and ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen something, heard something, or has information connected to the shooting to come forward.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Sacramento Sheriff’s non-emergency line at (916) 874-5115.
