Sacramento, California – An online threat reported to Sacramento police on Sept. 21 quickly grew into a wider investigation involving firearms, ammunition and materials that authorities say could be connected to making explosives.
What began with information about threats of violence linked to a Sacramento resident led officers to a home, a search warrant and the arrest of a 35-year-old man as investigators worked to determine the extent of the potential danger.
According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers received information on Sept. 21 concerning online threats associated with a local resident. Police said the threats involved violence directed toward a specific public location.
Officers immediately opened an investigation. The department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit and Explosive Ordnance Detail assisted as detectives developed information and obtained a warrant to search the suspect’s residence.
During that search, investigators said they recovered multiple firearms and ammunition, along with electronic devices and written materials. Police also found materials they believe may be associated with the manufacture of explosives.
Authorities identified the suspect as Lo Saetern, 35, of Sacramento. Saetern was arrested on charges related to making threats against a specific public location, according to the department.
Police also served Saetern with a Gun Violence Restraining Order. Such an order is separate from the criminal investigation and was issued as detectives continued examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged threats and the items recovered during the search.
The case remains active. Detectives are reviewing electronic devices, written materials and other evidence while conducting additional follow-up, police said. The department has not announced further arrests or provided additional details about the public location referenced in the alleged threats.
Because the investigation is continuing, authorities have not released further information about what investigators believe may have motivated the threats or how the recovered materials were intended to be used.
Sacramento police said the investigation involved coordination with regional, state and federal law enforcement partners and thanked those agencies for their assistance.
