Rivian’s nearly 60,000-square-foot Sacramento project moves closer to reality as city review gets underway

Sacramento, California – A nearly 60,000-square-foot warehouse on Northgate Boulevard is moving closer to a new life as Rivian’s Sacramento location, with the project now entering the city’s site plan and design review process.

For Sacramento Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, the latest filing is another step toward turning a lease announced earlier this year into a visible commercial presence in District 1. “I’m thrilled to see this project with Rivian taking its next steps on moving forward in District 1,” Kaplan wrote on Facebook.

City staff has issued a request for Site Plan and Design Review covering relatively minor changes to the existing property at 4100 Northgate Blvd. The proposal involves an existing 59,200-square-foot warehouse located on roughly 10.13 acres in the Northgate Industrial Park Planned Unit Development.

Plans call for minor facade modifications, improvements around the property, restriping of the parking lot and installation of electric vehicle charging stations. The site is located in the Light Industrial, or M-1S-PUD, zone.

The project is being routed under case number DR26-183, listed as Rivian – Sacramento.

Kaplan said Rivian and her office first announced the company’s plans in June, when Rivian signed a lease for approximately 60,000 square feet at the Northgate Boulevard property. At the time, she described the lease as a new commercial footprint for the electric vehicle company in Sacramento.

“This investment brings quality jobs, new economic activity, and momentum for District 1 that I and my team are working to build on,” Kaplan said.

“I am proud to welcome a company that is helping shape the future of transportation while also creating opportunities for our residents and contributing to the long-term success of our community.”

The city is now inviting written comments on the project. Residents and interested parties can submit comments to Deja Harris in Sacramento’s Planning Department at [email protected] by Oct. 16.

Project materials are also available through Sacramento’s Public Permit Portal. Attachments can be found under the “Record Info” section of the project page at https://agco.link/AFYNB7.

A number of neighborhood and community organizations have been listed in connection with the project, including groups representing North Natomas, South Natomas, Gardenland, Northgate, Robla and Rancho Del Paso, as well as organizations focused on preservation, transportation and regional development.

The applicant is listed as Orest Kravets of KravLand LLC.
