Sacramento, California – A Fair Oaks music teacher who has spent years working with children is now in custody after investigators said they found child sexual abuse material during a search of his home. The case has drawn added concern because detectives say some of the students who attended lessons at his home music studio were as young as four.
Authorities have not found evidence that the teacher had inappropriate physical contact with a child. Still, investigators are asking families who know him through music lessons to pay close attention to their children’s experiences and report anything concerning.
According to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force began investigating an individual suspected of downloading Child Sexual Abuse Material, commonly referred to as CSAM. During that investigation, authorities identified the suspect as 43-year-old Jiamo Chen of Fair Oaks.
Investigators said they learned Chen operates a music studio from his home and provides lessons to students, including many children. Detectives believe he has been teaching music in the Sacramento area for roughly 10 years.
On Sept. 30, 2026, detectives served a search warrant at Chen’s residence as part of the investigation. During the search, authorities said they located evidence of Child Sexual Abuse Material.
Chen was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.
According to investigators, there are currently no known previous reports or concerns involving Chen. Detectives also said the investigation has not uncovered evidence indicating that he had inappropriate physical contact with a child.
However, because Chen regularly had access to children through his music instruction, detectives said they want to make sure that no other incidents or concerns have gone unreported.
Parents and guardians whose children received lessons from Chen are being encouraged to speak with them about their interactions with the music teacher. Authorities are asking families to pay attention to anything their children may describe that raises concern.
Anyone who becomes aware of potentially criminal or troubling conduct involving Chen is asked to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency.
The investigation remains focused not only on the material detectives said they recovered, but also on determining whether there are any additional circumstances that have not yet been reported to authorities.
