Arrest in Alabama brings long-running Sacramento child abuse investigation to court, main suspect kept at Sacramento jail

Published on

Sacramento, California – A months-long investigation by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a man accused of committing dozens of child se* crimes, with detectives now warning that additional victims may still be unreported.

The case began in May 2024, when a social worker contacted authorities after a teenage patient disclosed that she had been se*ually abused as a young child. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported that the abuse occurred between the ages of six and ten and was committed by a family member, identified as Christopher Brinson. That initial disclosure let to a detailed investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau.

As detectives continued their work, they identified multiple victims connected to the same suspect. Based on the evidence gathered, investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging Brinson with 23 felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. The charges reflect alleged abuse involving more than one victim over an extended period of time.

Brinson was located and arrested in Alabama on December 9, 2025. After his arrest, he was extradited back to California and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Authorities say he is currently being held without bail as the case proceeds through the criminal justice system.

Investigators believe the scope of the alleged abuse may be broader than what has already been reported. Detectives say the suspected conduct began more than 30 years ago and continued over a significant span of time. Because of the length of the alleged activity and the suspect’s movement across multiple communities, law enforcement officials are concerned there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

Some of those potential victims may have been friends or acquaintances of Brinson’s children, according to investigators. To help identify individuals who may recognize the suspect from different periods of their lives, authorities have released both a current booking photograph and an older image taken in 2000.

Over the years, Brinson lived at numerous locations throughout Sacramento County, including neighborhoods along Cottongin Way, Rio Linda Boulevard, Eldridge Avenue, Mack Road, Briggs Drive, San Juan Road, Redwood Avenue, Wilson Avenue, Cleveland Avenue, Ethan Way, 53rd Street, 37th Street, Danridge Drive, 39th Avenue, and Palermo Court. Investigators say he also resided in other parts of California, including Visalia, Stockton, and Farmersville, as well as in Billings, Montana, and Mobile, Alabama.

Due to the wide geographic range of his past residences, detectives are urging anyone who may have had contact with Brinson as a child to consider coming forward, even if they are unsure whether what they experienced constitutes a crime. Authorities stress that delayed reporting is common in child se*ual abuse cases and that victims may not fully understand or disclose their experiences until many years later.

Anyone with information related to possible victims or past interactions with the suspect is encouraged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5191 or by email at [email protected].
