Sacramento, California – What began as a missing-person case involving a Sacramento woman has ended with her husband behind bars, accused of murder. Investigators say his initial explanation for her disappearance involved federal immigration agents, but that account began to unravel when detectives checked the facts.
The case took an even darker turn when burned human remains discovered in a neighboring county were identified as those of the missing woman. Within two weeks of her disappearance, homicide detectives had gathered enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for her husband.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Jasmine Gill was last seen at her Sacramento home on September 30, 2026. Four days later, on October 4, her cousin contacted authorities to report her missing.
During the early stages of the investigation, detectives interviewed Jasmine’s husband, Gurinder Gill, who offered an explanation for why his wife had suddenly disappeared.
Gurinder claimed that agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had taken Jasmine into custody while she was checking the mail outside their residence.
Investigators contacted ICE to verify his account. Federal immigration officials confirmed that no enforcement activity had taken place at the home, contradicting the explanation Gurinder had provided.
As detectives continued examining the circumstances surrounding Jasmine’s disappearance, they identified additional inconsistencies in her husband’s statements.
Authorities also discovered that the couple had been involved in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute, another detail that became part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, investigators were working to identify burned human remains found in El Dorado County on October 1, just one day after Jasmine was last seen.
The remains were subsequently confirmed to belong to Jasmine Gill, turning the missing-person investigation into a homicide case.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives secured an arrest warrant charging Gurinder Gill with murder.
On Wednesday, October 14, detectives located Gurinder and took him into custody. Authorities also carried out search warrants at two residences connected to him as part of their continuing investigation.
Gurinder was subsequently booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a murder charge. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he is being held without eligibility for bail.
The arrest marks a major development in a case that began with a family’s missing-person report and an account involving immigration enforcement that investigators were unable to substantiate.
The murder allegation remains a criminal charge, and Gurinder Gill is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
