Back-to-school pool party turns Friday preparation into four hours of free fun

Published on

Sacramento, California – Sacramento families can trade school-supply lists and end-of-summer errands for four hours of swimming, music and food this Friday.

The Second Annual Back-to-School Pool Party will turn Bidwell Elementary School and nearby Cabrillo Park into a community gathering place, giving children and parents a chance to have fun while preparing for the new academic year.

The free event is scheduled for Friday, August 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. at 1648 65th Ave. in Sacramento. Families from across the community are invited to attend, meet neighbors and enjoy an afternoon built around both recreation and practical back-to-school support.

Free swimming will be one of the main attractions. Organizers will also provide free food, music and family activities throughout the event. Drawing prizes will add another element of excitement for those attending.

For families working through their back-to-school shopping lists, the gathering will also include a free backpack giveaway. Backpacks will be distributed while supplies last, so families interested in receiving one may want to arrive before the event’s later hours.

The celebration is being organized with Councilmember Mai Vang, Sacramento City Unified School District Community Schools and a group of community partners. Their combined effort is designed to bring residents together before the school year begins while making essential supplies and activities available at no cost.

The four-hour schedule gives families flexibility to stop by after work, summer programs or other Friday commitments. Visitors can spend time in the pool, grab something to eat, listen to music or simply connect with other parents and children from the surrounding neighborhoods.

Now in its second year, the pool party blends the relaxed feeling of summer with the growing excitement of a fresh school year. Instead of making school preparation feel like another chore, the event offers families a chance to handle one important need—a backpack—while enjoying an afternoon together.

The Second Annual Back-to-School Pool Party will run from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bidwell Elementary School and Cabrillo Park, located at 1648 65th Ave., Sacramento, CA 95822. Admission, swimming, food and scheduled activities are free.
