Sacramento, California – Some of Sacramento’s busiest roads are also among those where serious crashes have raised the greatest safety concerns. Now, city officials are asking residents to help decide what changes should come next.
Three major corridors are getting renewed attention, and the public will soon have an opportunity to examine proposed improvements before the city moves toward finalizing its plans.
The City of Sacramento is preparing to present safety and mobility proposals for Fruitridge Road, Arden Way and Auburn Boulevard this fall. The effort focuses on making these streets safer and easier to navigate for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, transit riders and people using other forms of transportation.
The three roadways share an important distinction. Each belongs to Sacramento’s Vision Zero High Injury Network, a collection of streets identified as having some of the city’s highest concentrations of crashes resulting in fatalities or serious injuries.

That designation makes the upcoming discussions particularly important. The city is not simply looking at how traffic moves through these corridors, but also how people can travel along and across them more safely.
The proposed changes are being developed through two separate planning efforts: the Arden Way-Auburn Boulevard Mobility Plan and the Fruitridge Road Safety and Mobility Plan.
Both initiatives aim to address transportation challenges while improving accessibility for people with different travel needs. Walking, biking, rolling, driving and using public transportation are all part of the planning process.

Residents will have opportunities to review the proposals through community workshops and pop-up events. City officials intend to use the feedback collected during these activities to help shape the final versions of the plans.
One of the scheduled meetings will focus specifically on Fruitridge Road.
The Fruitridge Road Safety and Mobility Plan community workshop is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fruitridge Community Center, located at 4000 Fruitridge Road in Sacramento.
Those interested in participating can register through the Fruitridge Road community workshop Eventbrite page.
The 90-minute meeting offers residents a chance to examine the proposed direction of the project and contribute their perspectives while the planning process remains underway.
The broader effort also includes Arden Way and Auburn Boulevard, where proposed transportation improvements will be available for public review this fall.
Community input will play a role in determining how the plans take shape before they are finalized.
For Sacramento, the planning efforts represent another step in addressing safety concerns along roadways already identified as especially vulnerable to severe crashes.
For residents who regularly travel these streets, the upcoming public review process offers an opportunity to influence how those corridors could function in the future.
