Sacramento, California – A few hours, a pair of gloves and a willingness to get dirty could make a visible difference at Steelhead Creek.
Natomas volunteers are being invited to trade part of their Saturday evening for a three-hour community cleanup focused on removing trash from the creek and the surrounding area.
The cleanup will take place Saturday, Aug. 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Steelhead Creek. The event is being organized in partnership with the River City Waterway Alliance, bringing community members together for a hands-on effort to care for the local waterway.
Organizers will provide the equipment needed for the work. Volunteers will have access to gloves, trash grabbers, buckets, trash bags and other cleanup supplies. Donuts will also be available for participants.
That means residents do not need to arrive with tools or special equipment. They only need to be prepared to spend time outdoors, collect litter and work alongside others who want to improve the area.
The event is expected to last three hours, giving volunteers a defined window to help without committing an entire day. Its evening schedule may also make participation easier for residents who have plans or responsibilities earlier on Saturday.
Because of the location and the nature of the cleanup, the activity is best suited for people ages 14 and older. Anyone younger than 18 must attend with a responsible adult.
The age guidance is an important part of the event planning, particularly because volunteers will be working around a creek and handling discarded materials. Families interested in participating should make sure younger volunteers have the required adult supervision throughout the cleanup.
