At first, both people told the police they didn’t know how the damage happened. As the investigation went forward, patrol officers worked with detectives to get more information. Based on the findings at the scene, investigators prepared and obtained a search warrant for the motel room as well as a vehicle associated with the occupants.

During the search of the vehicle, officers found a gun in the glove compartment. After that, one of the individuals involved admitted that the gun had gone off by accident when they were showing it to the other person. Later, crime scene investigators came and found the spent round on the floor of the room, which confirmed where the gunshot came from.
