Sacramento, California – A new six-acre neighborhood park is in the works in Sacramento’s Delta Shores area, but an important part of the project is still undecided. What should the park offer, and how should the space be used?
Instead of making those decisions without community input, city officials are giving nearby residents an opportunity to help shape the park’s future before the design moves forward.
The City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment (YPCE) Department is inviting residents to participate in a community design survey for the proposed Delta Shores Neighborhood Park, which will be located at Delta View Avenue and Tidal View Way.
The survey focuses on what residents want to see in the new public space, from recreational facilities to areas where neighbors can gather and spend time outdoors.
Possible features include playgrounds, picnic areas, sports courts, fields and community gardens. However, these are options being considered as part of the planning process rather than confirmed amenities.
City officials particularly want to hear from people living within a half-mile of the proposed park. Their responses will help determine the layout, features and overall direction of the project, with the goal of creating a neighborhood park that reflects the community’s needs and priorities.
Participating does not require much time. According to the city, the questionnaire takes approximately five to eight minutes to complete.
Residents interested in contributing their ideas can access the Delta Shores Park Community Design Survey. The deadline to submit feedback is November 6, 2026.
While the public engagement process is underway, Sacramento has also outlined a preliminary schedule for turning the proposed park into a completed project.
The park’s amenities plan is expected to undergo review and approval in spring 2027. During that same year, the city’s senior landscape architect is anticipated to prepare the construction documents needed to move the development forward.
The project is then scheduled to enter the bidding process in winter 2027.
If development proceeds according to the city’s anticipated timeline, construction should begin in spring 2028, with the park targeted for completion by the end of 2028.
For Delta Shores residents, the immediate priority is the survey. The city is encouraging community participation now, while there is still an opportunity for public feedback to influence the design of the future neighborhood park.
