Sacramento County deputies investigate fatal stabbing after early-morning disturbance call in Rancho Cordova

Published on

Sacramento, California – A quiet Rancho Cordova intersection became the center of a homicide investigation early Sunday after a late-night argument turned violent near El Mercado Drive and Chettenham Drive.

The first call came at about 1 a.m. It was not reported as a killing at first. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the caller said four or five people appeared to be arguing in the area. By the time deputies arrived, two adult men were injured, one fatally.

Deputies found both men near the intersection and immediately requested the Fire Department while providing medical aid themselves. Fire personnel later pronounced one adult male dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office said his injuries appeared to include a stab wound. A second adult male had a laceration to the head and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The case is now being handled as an active homicide investigation. Crime Scene Investigators and homicide detectives remained at the scene as authorities began working through what happened before deputies arrived.

Several people were in the area when the incident occurred, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and investigators planned to interview them as part of the early fact-finding process. No suspect information, arrests, or additional details about the circumstances of the argument were released in the initial statement.

The Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified the man who died. Authorities also did not release the condition of the second injured man beyond saying he was transported to the hospital.

For nearby residents, the investigation marks another early-morning scene where a routine call about a disturbance quickly became something much more serious. What began as a report of people arguing ended with deputies blocking off part of the area, investigators collecting evidence, and detectives trying to piece together the final moments before the stabbing.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact its non-emergency line at (916) 874-5115. The department also lists that number on its official channels for non-emergency contact.
