Sacramento, California – A group of young people from Sacramento County traveled to San Diego with something to prove. They returned with six trophies, a second-place overall finish and another strong showing for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program.
The result came against a crowded field. Sacramento County Explorers competed with teams representing 31 law enforcement agencies from across California, putting their preparation, teamwork and confidence to the test at the Southern California Explorer Competition.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the performance reinforced its belief that its Explorer Program ranks among the best in the state. Throughout the competition, the Sacramento County team represented the agency with professionalism while working together through the challenges presented during the event.

By the end of the competition, the Explorers had secured second place overall and collected six trophies, an accomplishment that stood out in a field made up of participants from dozens of law enforcement agencies.
For the Sheriff’s Office, however, the final standings were only part of the story. The agency emphasized the way the Explorers carried themselves during the competition, pointing to their confidence, teamwork and professional conduct.
Explorer programs are designed to give young participants exposure to law enforcement environments and opportunities to develop leadership and teamwork skills. In Sacramento County, the latest competition gave members another chance to represent their community beyond the local level and measure themselves against Explorer teams from around California.
The San Diego competition also provided a statewide stage for Sacramento County’s young participants. Facing teams from 31 agencies meant the Explorers were competing in a broad group, making the second-place finish and six-trophy haul especially notable.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said it was incredibly proud of the young leaders and the level of excellence they continue to represent.
The trophies will serve as a visible reminder of the team’s performance, but the larger takeaway for the agency is the consistency of its Explorer Program. Sacramento County entered the Southern California competition believing its Explorers belonged among California’s strongest programs. Their finish in San Diego gave the Sheriff’s Office another reason to make that case.
