Sacramento families invited to free “Movie Night Under the Stars!” event at George Sim Community Center on August 26

Sacramento, California – Sacramento families will have a chance to slow the week down, spread out a blanket and enjoy a summer evening together when movie night comes to the George Sim Community Center later this summer.

The City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment Department, known as YPCE, is hosting “Movie Night Under the Stars!” on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The free community gathering will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the George Sim Community Center, located at 6207 Logan Street.

The evening is planned as a relaxed neighborhood event built around families, friends and neighbors coming together before the end of summer. Admission will be free, making it an easy outing for residents looking for something fun to do without adding another cost to the family calendar.

Before the movie begins, guests can enjoy games and music at the community center. The event will also include popcorn, cotton candy, Otter Pops and refreshments, giving the night the feel of a small summer festival rather than a simple screening.

This year’s movie night will feature “Super Mario Galaxy,” bringing a familiar and colorful favorite to the outdoor setting. With games, music and snacks planned before showtime, the event is designed to give children something to enjoy right away while families settle in for the evening.

Residents planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. The setup is meant to be cozy and casual, with families able to sit together under the evening sky while enjoying the movie and the company of the community around them.

The George Sim Community Center has long served as a gathering place for neighborhood programs and family activities, and this event continues that role by offering a simple but meaningful way for residents to connect. No tickets or admission fees are required.

The event will run only for two hours, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., so families are encouraged to arrive on time, get comfortable and enjoy the full evening. Hosted by YPCE and the City of Sacramento, the movie night is intended to be a light, welcoming summer moment for all ages.

For families, neighbors and anyone looking for a friendly community outing, August 26 offers a clear invitation: bring a blanket, bring a chair and enjoy a free night under the stars at George Sim Community Center.
