Sacramento families invited to free “Movie Night Under the Stars!” event at George Sim Community Center on August 26

Sacramento, California – Sacramento families will have a chance to slow the week down, spread out a blanket and enjoy a summer evening together when movie night comes to the George Sim Community Center later this summer.

The City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment Department, known as YPCE, is hosting “Movie Night Under the Stars!” on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The free community gathering will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the George Sim Community Center, located at 6207 Logan Street.

The evening is planned as a relaxed neighborhood event built around families, friends and neighbors coming together before the end of summer. Admission will be free, making it an easy outing for residents looking for something fun to do without adding another cost to the family calendar.

Before the movie begins, guests can enjoy games and music at the community center. The event will also include popcorn, cotton candy, Otter Pops and refreshments, giving the night the feel of a small summer festival rather than a simple screening.

This year’s movie night will feature “Super Mario Galaxy,” bringing a familiar and colorful favorite to the outdoor setting. With games, music and snacks planned before showtime, the event is designed to give children something to enjoy right away while families settle in for the evening.

Residents planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. The setup is meant to be cozy and casual, with families able to sit together under the evening sky while enjoying the movie and the company of the community around them.
