Sacramento, California – Sacramento’s stretch of high temperatures is lasting longer than expected, and the city is keeping key cooling locations open to give residents more time to escape the heat.
The extension affects two city-operated sites, while Sacramento Regional Transit is also continuing free transportation to activated weather respite centers through the end of the current heat response.
The City of Sacramento said the Outreach and Engagement Center, located at 3615 Auburn Blvd., will remain open continuously through 8 a.m. on Oct. 10. The facility had already been activated as a cooling location, but ongoing high temperatures prompted officials to extend its operations.
The North 5th Street Navigation Center, at 700 N. 5th St., will also continue serving as a cooling center. It will operate from 1 to 8 p.m. each day through Oct. 9.
