Sacramento, California – Sacramento boaters have an extra reason to head toward the water this Labor Day. Along with a long holiday weekend, the Sacramento Marina is offering a free opportunity for vessel owners to make sure they are ready for a safe trip.
The marina will host a Labor Day event on Monday, September 7, featuring free vessel safety checks and safe boater kits. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sacramento Marina.
The program is being sponsored by Sacramento Marina in collaboration with America’s Boating Club of Greater Sacramento and the Dockwalker Program through the Division of Boating and Waterways.
The safety checks give boat owners a chance to have their vessels examined before heading onto the water during the holiday. The Labor Day event also arrives as another major boating attraction has returned to the Sacramento area. Salmon season has reopened following a three-year hiatus, giving anglers another reason to get their boats back on the water.
For people planning to launch regularly, annual boat launch ramp passes are available for purchase at the Sacramento Marina Office. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Those annual passes can be used at both Miller Park and Garcia Bend boat launch ramps, providing access to two Sacramento launching locations.
Boaters preparing for a day on the river can also find basic supplies at the marina. The fuel dock store, which is open daily, carries bait, some fishing tackle, ice and snacks.
With salmon season back and Labor Day bringing more people outdoors, Monday’s event combines recreation with a practical reminder about boating safety. From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., vessel owners can stop by Sacramento Marina, have their boats checked at no cost and pick up safety materials before getting underway.
