Sacramento, California – Sacramento’s skating season opened with a price that was easy to warm up to: $2 admission. Now that the opening-day deal has passed, Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra is pointing residents toward more reasons to visit the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink.
From free skating for veterans to a donation discount and themed events, the calendar offers several chances to plan a trip to Ali Youssefi Square before the season ends in January.
Guerra shared news of the rink’s reopening earlier this week, highlighting its grand opening session, which ran from 2 to 9 p.m. The discounted admission applied to opening day, giving visitors an inexpensive start to the winter attraction’s return.
For those who missed it, the next dates on Guerra’s list bring different opportunities to take part. Veterans can skate free on November 11, followed by Princess & Superhero Day on November 14.
Later in the month, a visit can also support a local food bank. According to the information Guerra shared, skaters who bring a donation for River City Food Bank between November 16 and 29 can receive $5 off admission. That gives residents a chance to combine time on the ice with a contribution to the community.
The event schedule continues into December, with Drag Queens on Ice set for December 11. After the new year, a Silent Disco is scheduled for January 2, followed by an A’s-sponsored Free Skate on January 9.
The regular operating schedule leaves room for both afternoon outings and longer weekend visits. The rink opens from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Mondays are generally closed, with exceptions for holidays.
Residents planning a final holiday visit should note that the Downtown Sacramento Partnership lists the season’s closing date as January 18, 2027, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Holiday skating hours that day are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Full hours and updates are available on the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink website.
