South Sacramento festival turns to community members for help ahead of Aug. 29 event

Published on

Sacramento, California – A community festival may fill Valley Hi Park for just one day, but making that day work takes many hands long before visitors arrive. Organizers of the 2026 South Sac Festival are now looking for volunteers willing to help turn the annual gathering into a smooth, welcoming experience for local families.

The festival returns Saturday, August 29, with a focus on connection, culture and community. Behind the activities and resources, volunteers will serve as an important part of the event, helping guests navigate the festival and supporting the work happening throughout the park.

Organizers say the South Sac Festival depends on people from the community who are willing to contribute their time and energy. Volunteers may help families locate available resources, assist with activities or take on other responsibilities needed to keep the event moving throughout the day.

The work can vary, but the goal remains the same: creating an organized and enjoyable experience for everyone who attends.

That community involvement is a central part of the festival itself. Rather than relying only on event staff, the South Sac Festival brings residents into the process, giving volunteers an opportunity to participate directly in one of South Sacramento’s community gatherings.

Every role matters, organizers emphasized, whether someone is working directly with families, supporting an activity area or helping with the behind-the-scenes tasks that keep the day on track.

The festival is scheduled to take place at Valley Hi Park on Saturday, August 29. People interested in joining the volunteer team can register online through the festival’s volunteer sign-up page at southsacfestival.org/volunteer-registration.

For organizers, the call for volunteers is about more than filling available positions. It is also an invitation for residents to become part of the event itself and help create the atmosphere that has made the festival a community-centered occasion.

As August 29 approaches, organizers are encouraging interested residents to sign up and become part of the team responsible for welcoming families, supporting activities and helping South Sacramento come together for a day of connection, culture and joy.
