Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office invites residents to apply for its fifth Community Academy as the 10-week program returns this May with limited space

Published on

Sacramento, California – The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to open another round of its Community Academy, giving local residents a chance to step inside the work of the department and spend several weeks learning directly from the people who keep the county’s law enforcement system running.

Set to begin on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the academy will run through July 7, 2026, marking the fifth time the Sheriff’s Office has offered the program to community members. The course is designed to bring the public closer to the agency by creating a space where residents can meet sheriff’s personnel, ask questions and gain a broader understanding of how different parts of the office operate.

The program will unfold over 10 weeks, with participants gathering each Tuesday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the academy includes nine weeks of presentations and learning sessions, followed by graduation during the 10th week. Along the way, attendees will hear from staff across a wide range of divisions and specialties.

Topics scheduled for the course include Patrol Operations, Recruiting, Youth Services, Internal Affairs, Re-Entry Services, K9 and the Special Enforcement Detail, along with other areas that shape the office’s daily work. The academy is intended to give residents a clearer view of the responsibilities, structure and people behind the badge, while also helping strengthen ties between the department and the community it serves.

Only 30 spots are available, making the class limited in size. That smaller format is expected to give participants a more direct experience as they move through the weekly sessions and hear from the different divisions.

Applications are now being accepted, with the deadline set for April 20, 2026. Community members interested in taking part can apply through the Sheriff’s Community Academy Application 2026. Those seeking more information, or who would like to receive an application by email, can contact Lt. Kionna Rowe at [email protected].

With the next academy approaching, the Sheriff’s Office is once again offering Sacramento County residents a structured look at the inner workings of the department. For those curious about what happens beyond emergency calls and patrol vehicles, the program offers a rare chance to learn how the office functions from the inside out.
