Sacramento Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes calls on Natomas residents to join community landscaping day on June 13

Published on

Sacramento, California – A small stretch of Sacramento’s Natomas community is set to get a little greener, and residents are being invited to help make it happen.

Sacramento Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes is calling on neighbors to take part in a community beautification event at Niños Parkway, near Niños Pkwy and Edmonton Dr., on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The three-hour gathering will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will focus on improving a shared neighborhood space through planting, landscaping, and volunteer work.

The event is part of a new volunteer landscaping program designed to bring residents together around hands-on improvements in public spaces. Instead of simply watching city crews do the work, neighbors will have the chance to take part directly, placing plants, helping shape the area, and leaving behind something visible for the community to enjoy.

Organizers are presenting the morning as more than a cleanup or planting day. It is also meant to be a chance for families, neighbors, and volunteers of all ages to meet one another, spend time outside, and contribute to a place many people pass through or live near. The event is family-friendly and open to all ages.

Participants will also receive free plants and seeds from the City of Sacramento’s Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment Department. Other giveaways will be available while supplies last.

For residents who want a simple way to give back without a long-term commitment, the event offers a clear opportunity. In just one morning, volunteers can help refresh Niños Parkway and support a broader effort to care for Sacramento’s neighborhood spaces.

The location, near Niños Parkway and Edmonton Drive in Sacramento, places the work directly inside the community it is meant to benefit. By inviting residents to take part, Vice Mayor Talamantes is putting the focus on local pride, shared responsibility, and the small improvements that can make a neighborhood feel more welcoming.

As June 13 approaches, neighbors are encouraged to plan ahead and come ready to spend the morning outdoors. The work may be simple — planting, landscaping, and helping improve the parkway — but the result could be something lasting: a cleaner, brighter, more connected space shaped by the people who call the area home.
