Sacramento, California – Families in District 1 will have a chance to ease into summer this Friday night with a free evening event built around swimming, popcorn, and a movie under the sky.
#TeamKaplan is inviting residents to the first movie night of the summer this Friday, June 26, at the North Natomas Aquatics Complex, located at 2601 New Market Dr. in Sacramento. The event will feature a sponsored family swim from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a lawn screening of Shark Tale beginning at 8:15 p.m., around dusk.
The evening is being presented as a free family event, with the District 1 sponsorship covering pool admission during the 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. family swim hour. Organizers noted that regular recreation swim fees still apply before 7 p.m. For those arriving earlier, the regular rec swim window runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with admission set at $9 for adults ages 18 and older and $7 for children ages 2 to 17.
“I’m proud to sponsor this FREE Family event including a Family swim from 7pm- 8pm,” Councilmember Lisa Kaplan wrote on Facebook, while also reminding visitors that “regular Rec swim FEES APPLY BEFORE 7pm.”
After the swim hour, families can move from the pool area to the aquatic center lawn for the movie portion of the night. One Youth will offer free popcorn and water as guests settle in for Shark Tale, giving the event the feel of a simple neighborhood summer gathering: kids drying off, families spreading out blankets, and the movie starting as daylight fades.
Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, especially because temperatures can feel cooler once the sun goes down. The reminder is practical, but it also fits the mood of the evening. This is not a formal program or a crowded indoor event. It is a community night outside, with swimming first and a movie after.
The gathering gives District 1 families a low-cost way to spend a summer Friday together and marks the start of #TeamKaplan’s seasonal movie night series. With free admission during the sponsored swim hour, free popcorn and water during the movie, and Shark Tale on the lawn, the evening is set up as a relaxed start to summer for North Natomas families.
