Sacramento County, California – A deadly encounter on Marconi Avenue is now coming into sharper focus, with Sacramento County authorities releasing new details about the 34-year-old man killed in an officer-involved shooting and his prior history involving firearms.
The shooting happened October 4, one day after a caller said the same man had fired a gun at her and her husband. Investigators also say the suspect had been arrested just months earlier after another alleged gun-related confrontation at the same Marconi Avenue and Eastern Avenue intersection.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 11 a.m. when the Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of a man sleeping on the ground behind a business at 4313 Marconi Avenue. According to the caller, a handgun was resting on the man’s lap. She also told authorities she believed he was the person who had fired a gun at her and her husband on October 3.

Deputies arrived and found the man asleep with a handgun on his lap, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Because of the weapon, deputies waited for additional personnel before attempting to contact him.
Once more deputies arrived, they used a patrol vehicle’s horn to wake the man from a distance. Authorities said deputies repeatedly ordered him not to reach for the handgun and instructed him to stand, raise his hands, turn away and slowly walk backward toward them.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man did not follow repeated commands. He eventually stood but continued to disregard instructions. Authorities said he lowered his hands and began turning toward deputies when three deputies fired their weapons.
The man was struck. Deputies provided medical aid until fire personnel arrived, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No deputies were injured. Authorities said a loaded handgun was recovered at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office has now identified the man as a 34-year-old Pacific Islander male. His name will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office under its normal protocols.
Investigators also disclosed that the suspect had been arrested in June 2026 after an incident at the same intersection. Authorities said he was accused at that time of pulling a firearm on a man and woman and was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm. A gun was also recovered during that incident.
The October 4 shooting remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent review, while the deputies involved will remain on administrative leave pending the investigation.
