Sacramento, California – A late-night call in Sacramento turned into a homicide investigation after officers found a man suffering from a stab wound in a residential area early Saturday morning.
Police said officers tried to keep the victim alive at the scene before firefighters transported him to a hospital, but he later died. Investigators are now working to determine what led to the deadly encounter, with no suspect information publicly available.
According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 1:30 a.m. on October 3 to the 2800 block of Sagemill Way following reports that someone had been stabbed.
When officers arrived, they located an adult man with at least one stab wound. Officers immediately provided emergency medical aid while waiting for additional medical personnel to arrive.
The Sacramento Fire Department then took over the victim’s medical care and transported him to an area hospital. Despite those efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Because of the circumstances surrounding the death, Sacramento Police Department homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to Sagemill Way to take over the case. Investigators processed the area for evidence and spoke with witnesses as they began piecing together what happened before officers arrived.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation. As of the latest update, authorities had not released information about a possible suspect or what may have led to the incident.
The identity of the man who died has also not yet been publicly released. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify him after his next of kin have been notified.
