Sacramento, California – Sacramento County’s fight against organized retail theft moved from policy talk to store aisles on June 3, 2026, when the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Crime Task Force joined forces with Target during a National Organized Retail Theft Blitz.
The operation was designed with a clear purpose: identify repeat offenders, stop retail theft activity and make arrests where evidence supported enforcement. Deputies focused on people suspected of stealing from stores, as well as individuals wanted on outstanding warrants or connected to other criminal activity discovered during the effort.
By the end of the blitz, the enforcement action had led to seven arrests. Two of those were felony arrests under Proposition 36, the California measure tied to tougher consequences for certain repeat theft and drug-related offenses. Deputies also reported three additional felony drug-related charges connected to the operation.
The sweep did not stop there. Two people were arrested on warrants, with authorities saying those cases involved a total of five outstanding warrants. Deputies also issued ten trespass notices and cited several additional individuals during the retail theft-focused operation.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said organized retail theft continues to affect businesses, workers and customers across the community. For stores, repeated theft can mean lost merchandise, added security costs and pressure on employees who are left to deal with the problem in real time. For customers, those losses can ripple outward through higher prices, reduced inventory and a less safe shopping environment.
The partnership with Target reflected the larger strategy behind the National Organized Retail Theft Blitz: bring law enforcement and retailers together in targeted operations aimed at repeat offenders and theft crews. Officials said these coordinated efforts help identify patterns, locate suspects and respond more effectively than isolated enforcement actions.
