Sacramento County, California – A Sacramento County woman fled her home with her children after her husband allegedly pressed a handgun against the back of her neck and threatened to shoot her. When deputies arrived, he remained inside, refusing repeated attempts to get him to come out.
The standoff lasted about 40 minutes before 41-year-old Wang Yu Yang surrendered, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office release. A search afterward turned up four loaded firearms, ammunition and six high-capacity rifle magazines, including one capable of holding 60 rounds.
Central Division deputies responded late at night after the woman reported the alleged domestic violence. The confrontation between Yang and his wife had begun earlier that afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said.
During an argument, Yang allegedly struck his wife multiple times before retrieving a handgun. Deputies said he placed the weapon against the back of her neck and threatened to shoot her, then struck her in the forehead.
Fearing for her safety, the woman left the residence with the couple’s children and contacted law enforcement. Her report brought deputies to the home, where they established a perimeter and began trying to reach Yang.
Deputies made repeated announcements and telephone calls, but Yang refused to leave the residence, according to the release. As efforts to contact him continued, deputies requested additional resources, including an armored vehicle, a K-9 unit and drones.
About 40 minutes into the standoff, Yang walked outside. Deputies took him into custody without further incident.
Inside the residence, deputies found the handgun allegedly used to threaten the woman, along with two rifles and a semi-automatic shotgun. All four firearms were loaded, the Sheriff’s Office said. The search also uncovered numerous rounds of ammunition and the six high-capacity rifle magazines.
The release did not identify the specific felony charges filed against Yang, but said he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony counts. It listed his bail at $200,000.
Yang is scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The allegations against him have not been proven in court. His arrest followed the woman’s escape with the children, repeated efforts by deputies to secure his surrender and the subsequent recovery of the firearms from the home.
