Temporary schedule reduces Sacramento to Bay Area rail trips until late February

Published on

Sacramento, California – There will be fewer trains on the Capitol Corridor timetable until the end of February due to the rail service is temporarily cutting back on operations due to equipment problems. The changes take effect Monday, January 26, and are scheduled to remain in place through Friday, February 27, 2026, according to officials.

The change impacts service on the major Northern California rail line that connects the Sacramento area with the Bay Area and other places. This route runs on both weekdays and weekends.

Officials from the transit system indicated that the cuts are necessary to deal with the existing availability of train equipment while also making sure that the remaining trips remain reliable.

During the week, some trains that usually run will not run during this time. Trains 531 and 537 will not run on weekdays, which will cut down on westbound service. Eastbound weekday riders will also have fewer options because Trains 520, 526, and 534 will not be running until the end of February.

People who travel on the weekend will also be affected. The temporary stop includes Train 736 going east and Train 737 going west. But officials said there was a small exception: both weekend trains will run on Sunday, February 8. The two trains won’t run during the service reduction period, except on that date.

Even with the reductions, Capitol Corridor officials stressed that travelers still have options when it comes to their travel plans. People who have tickets for trains that are affected can use their tickets on the next available train without having to change their reservations. You don’t have to rebook, and your tickets are good for up to a year after the date you originally planned to travel.

The agency wants passengers to prepare ahead and look out the temporary schedule before they go to the station. You can find updated schedules online that show the new service. This way, travelers can find other trains that meet their plans.

Capitol Corridor also suggests that people who ride sign up for service alerts by email or text message. These alerts give travelers real-time information and reminders during the disturbance, so they know about any modifications or new notices.

Officials appreciated riders for being patient and understanding while the service is running at a lower level for a short time. After February 27, when problems with equipment availability are fixed, regular service is scheduled to start up again. More details are available here.
