Sacramento, California – For anyone who has ever wondered what it feels like to lay bricks, handle construction tools or talk directly with people already working in the skilled trades, a Sacramento event this November is putting those experiences in one place. And it is pairing the career exploration with something less formal: a community block party.
The Sacramento-Sierra Building and Construction Trades Council is bringing its “Taking It To the Streets” Union Trades Career Fair + Block Party to Natomas Regional Park on Friday, Nov. 6, giving attendees four hours to explore jobs, meet industry professionals and get hands-on experience.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is expected to feature representatives from more than 28 local construction union trades. Instead of simply collecting brochures or listening to presentations, visitors will be able to try demonstrations that include laying bricks and using power tools.
Sacramento Councilmember Lisa Kaplan highlighted the upcoming event, encouraging residents to check it out.
The career fair is designed to connect attendees with a broad mix of employers and organizations. Participants are expected from public utilities, government agencies and community organizations, along with partners representing industries such as energy, healthcare and education.
That range gives visitors an opportunity to learn about more than one path into the workforce. Attendees can speak directly with people from the trades and other industries, ask questions about available opportunities and get a closer look at the type of work different careers involve.
Organizers are also adding a block-party atmosphere to the day. Music, free food, giveaways and other resources will be available alongside the career-focused activities, giving the event a more relaxed setting for conversations and demonstrations.
The combination of practical activities and direct access to industry professionals could be especially useful for people considering a career change, students beginning to think about their next step or anyone curious about union construction work.
“Taking It To the Streets” will take place Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Natomas Regional Park in Sacramento.
