Sacramento, California – For families across Natomas, the countdown to a new school year is about more than buying notebooks and setting earlier alarms. It also means sorting out enrollment, immunization records, after-school care and the many small details that can make the first day run smoothly.
Natomas Unified School District is bringing those needs together in one place, while adding games, treats and a school supply drive to turn preparation into a community event.
The district will hold its Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Welcome Center parking lot at 1931 Arena Boulevard. The two-hour event is designed to help families prepare for the opening of school while connecting them with district programs, resources and opportunities.
Parents and guardians will be able to gather information about enrollment and registration, after-school programs, school athletics and immunization resources. Information about current job openings within Natomas Unified will also be available, along with additional services intended to help families begin the academic year with fewer unanswered questions.
The practical side of the morning will be paired with activities for children and families. The district plans to offer games, a photo booth, fair treats and raffle prizes. That combination gives parents a chance to handle school-related tasks while younger visitors enjoy the event.
A major part of the fair will be the district’s annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring new school supplies that can be distributed to students who need them. Each donation will earn the donor a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize.
The supply drive adds a community purpose to an event already centered on preparation. A backpack, box of pencils or other new classroom item can help another student arrive at school ready to participate from the first day.
For Natomas Unified, the fair offers a single morning to address several common back-to-school needs. Instead of families searching separately for registration details, athletic information, after-school options or employment opportunities, district representatives and resources will be gathered at one location.
The event is open to families preparing for the upcoming school year, and children are welcome to attend. With information tables, entertainment and the chance to support local students, the Back to School Fair is intended to make the transition from summer break to the classroom easier, and a little more enjoyable, for the Natomas community.
