Six special events transform Meadowview Farmers Market into a neighborhood gathering place until October

Published on

Sacramento, California – Sacramento’s Sunday market season is bringing more than fresh produce to Meadowview. From free bicycle repairs to a neighborhood block party, the months ahead are packed with activities designed to turn an ordinary shopping trip into a community gathering.

Every scheduled event is free, family-friendly and open to the public, giving residents several reasons to return to the @meadowviewfarmersmarket before the season ends in October.

The first special event arrives Aug. 2 with a free bike repair clinic. The clinic will return twice more during the season, on Sept. 6 and Oct. 4, offering cyclists additional opportunities to have their bicycles checked and repaired while visiting the market.

On Aug. 9, vendors and shoppers will mark Farmers’ Market Week with a special celebration highlighting the people and local food that keep the market running. The calendar then builds toward one of its largest community events, the Meadowview Block Party, scheduled for Sept. 27.

The season will close with a Halloween Market on Oct. 25. The event will bring a festive finish to nearly six months of Sunday markets and community programming.

The Meadowview Farmers Market operates every Sunday from May through October, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is held at the @ridesacrt Meadowview Light Rail Station, located at 3501 Meadowview Road in Sacramento.

Beyond its events, the market also offers several programs intended to make fresh food more affordable and accessible.

CalFresh shoppers can receive up to $15 in Market Match funds to purchase fresh produce when they use their CalFresh card at the market. That means eligible customers can stretch their food benefits further while buying directly from participating farmers.

Children ages 12 and younger can receive $5 Kids Bucks vouchers to spend with farmers. The program gives younger visitors a chance to select their own fruits, vegetables or other eligible farm products.

Adults can also earn a $15 farmer voucher through the Walk With Friends program. Participants receive the voucher after joining a short walking activity organized with @healthedcouncil. Online registration is required before participating.

With six special dates, three food-access programs and weekly Sunday shopping, the Meadowview Farmers Market is shaping its remaining 2026 season around more than what is sold at the stands. It is also creating a place for families to move, meet neighbors and take part in the community.
