North Natomas turns farmers market morning into celebration of books and young readers

Published on

Sacramento, California – A Saturday morning in North Natomas will soon turn into a small celebration of books, creativity and family time, with young readers getting another chance to hear stories directly from children’s authors.

Sacramento Councilmember Lisa Kaplan and District 1 are bringing back the Literacy Corner on September 12, marking the final edition of the seasonal event at North Natomas Regional Park.

The free gathering is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the park, located at 2501 New Market Drive. The Literacy Corner will take place during the One Natomas Farmers Market, giving families another activity to add to their Saturday morning visit.

Organizers say the event will feature a lineup of guest children’s authors who will read stories live for young attendees. The storytelling sessions are intended to put books at the center of the morning while giving children and families an opportunity to meet and support participating authors.

Reading, however, will only be part of the program.

Children will also be able to take part in free arts and crafts activities, face painting and games. A coloring contest is planned as well, along with raffle prizes that will add another interactive element to the event.

The mix of activities is designed to give children several ways to participate, whether they want to sit down for a story, create something of their own or join one of the games.

Councilmember Kaplan’s team is encouraging families from District 1 and the broader Natomas community to attend the final Literacy Corner of the season. #TeamKaplan is also inviting residents to help support the guest authors appearing at the event.

For families looking for a simple weekend outing, the September gathering combines the farmers market atmosphere with three hours of reading-focused entertainment for children.

The event runs from 9 a.m. until noon on September 12 at North Natomas Regional Park. Families are invited to attend, meet the featured authors and spend the morning celebrating reading and creativity in Natomas.
