Sacramento 19-year-old suspect arrested again less than 24 hours after jail release, stolen jewelry recovered

Published on

Sacramento, California – A jewelry theft investigation in Sacramento County took an unusual turn when deputies discovered one suspect had been out of jail for less than a day. Even more striking, authorities said he had been released on charges matching the new case.

Andre Wiley, 19, was arrested again less than 24 hours after leaving the Placer County Jail on his own recognizance, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The latest arrest followed a reported theft at a local jewelry store last week. Investigators said Wiley arrived at the business with Andrew Ivy and Kameryus Mayhand, both 18.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ivy and Mayhand began looking at jewelry and kept store employees occupied. Wiley allegedly remained at a consultation desk, where he took two pieces of jewelry before walking out of the store. Authorities said Ivy and Mayhand immediately left with him.

The group did not get far.

A short time later, members of the Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit located the three suspects in their vehicle. The encounter led to their arrests and the recovery of items connected to the investigation, authorities said.

While processing the case, deputies learned Wiley had been released from the Placer County Jail less than 24 hours earlier. He was also on pretrial probation for burglary, conspiracy and grand theft charges—the same charges he would face following the jewelry store incident.

Wiley, Ivy and Mayhand were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Each faces charges of burglary, conspiracy and grand theft.

The investigation may extend beyond the reported jewelry store theft. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office released booking photographs of all three suspects because detectives believe they could be connected to additional thefts.

Authorities are now asking business owners and members of the public to look at the photographs and report any possible encounters involving the three men. Anyone who recognizes Wiley, Ivy or Mayhand, or believes they may have been the victim of a related theft, is asked to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115.

The Sheriff’s Office has not announced whether additional cases have already been identified. The allegations against the three suspects will proceed through the court system.
