Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office pieces together events after four people found dead in Mill Water Circle house

Published on

Sacramento, California – Four people, two of whom were children, were found dead in a Rancho Cordova home on Tuesday afternoon. The Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies are now investigating the shooting. The discovery came after hours of strong police action in the area, which was sparked by allegations of shooting and a distressing phone call that made people fear of additional danger.

Tuesday morning, deputies were dispatched to the area after someone living there said they heard gunshots near Copper Sunset Way. While officers were on their way, dispatchers got a second phone from someone who said they were responsible for firing a gun. The caller also said that “booby traps” were being set, a statement that immediately elevated the response and triggered significant safety concerns.

Because of the nature of that call, deputies started an extensive operation. Several units, such as sheriff’s deputies, SWAT team members, and other specialized resources, were rushed to the area, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. As a safety measure, those living nearby were ordered to leave their homes and remain away from the area as police attempted to figure out how serious the danger was and make the area safe. Streets were closed as law enforcement established a perimeter around the neighborhood.

After a few hours, deputies carefully searched a house on Mill Water Circle in the 5400 block. There were four dead people inside the house. Officials claimed that the victims were an adult man, an adult woman, and two children. At the site, all four were declared dead and it was found that they had been shot. The identities and ages of the victims have not been released.

During the search, investigators did not locate any booby traps, despite the earlier claims made during the 911 call. Officials from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said that there is no current threat to the public and that no suspects are being investigated at this time. It is still not known if the adult man who was located inside the house was the same person who called dispatchers earlier in the day.

Authorities said that the individual who lived there had numerous firearms registered to him. Records also show that he had served in the military before. Investigators said that there had been no previous allegations of domestic violence or calls to the police from the address, which made the case even more complicated.

Homicide detectives stayed at the scene all day, systematically gathering evidence and trying to figure out what happened before the deadly event. The investigation remains open, and officials haven’t said anything about what happened inside the house or how the victims were related to each other.

Officials from the sheriff’s office stressed that the case remains open and that more information will be given as soon as possible. They also acknowledged the impact of the incident on the surrounding community, thanking residents for their cooperation during the evacuations and road closures. Authorities said their focus remains on understanding exactly what happened and ensuring transparency as confirmed details emerge.
