Sacramento County urges voters to fill out the form, return Signature Verification Statements no later than June 24

Published on

Sacramento County, California – Sacramento County election officials are reminding voters that a small signature issue can still decide whether a ballot is counted.

The warning comes as the deadline approaches for voters whose ballot signature is missing or does not match the signature on their voter registration record. In those cases, voters should receive a notice explaining what needs to be corrected and how to submit the required Signature Verification Statement.

The deadline is firm: corrections must be received no later than June 24, 2026, at 5 p.m. Ballots affected by a missing or mismatched signature will not be counted unless the voter completes the statement properly and returns it on time.

County officials are urging voters to read the instructions carefully before filling out the form. The statement requires voters to provide their name and residence address, then sign the document. The signature must be written by the voter in their own handwriting and must compare to the signature or signatures already in the voter registration record.

The county’s message is simple but important. Do not wait. A delayed return, an incomplete form or a signature that is not provided correctly could prevent a ballot from being counted.

Voters can return the completed Signature Verification Statement by mail. They may also submit it online through the Signature Verification Statement portal here.

For voters who prefer to handle the matter in person, the form may be delivered to the Sacramento County Elections Office at 7000 65th St., Suite A, Sacramento.

The notice is part of the post-election process that gives voters a chance to fix signature problems before final deadlines pass. For anyone who receives a notice, the next step should be immediate: review the instructions, complete the statement and return it as soon as possible.

Sacramento County’s reminder is not just about paperwork. It is about making sure every eligible voter who returned a ballot has the chance to have that ballot counted. But that chance depends on meeting the June 24 deadline and following the instructions exactly.
