Sacramento, California – A Saturday afternoon shooting along Arden Way left one woman dead and another fighting for her life, prompting a homicide investigation that stretched from the crime scene to the eventual arrest of a Fresno man.
Sacramento police were called to the 1700 block of Arden Way just after 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 26. When officers arrived, they found two adult women who had each suffered at least one gunshot wound, Sacramento PD said in a release.
One of the victims was transported to a nearby hospital, where police said she remained in critical condition. Officers provided emergency medical aid to the second woman while waiting for fire personnel to arrive, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deadly shooting brought homicide detectives and crime scene investigators to the area as the Sacramento Police Department began working to determine what happened. Investigators processed the scene, gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses as part of the initial response.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
As detectives continued following leads, investigators later identified and located a suspect. Police said 36-year-old Edward Tucker of Fresno was taken into custody and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide-related charges.
Authorities did not provide additional details about what may have led to the shooting or describe the relationship, if any, between Tucker and the two victims.
The identity of the woman who died has not yet been publicly released. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify her after her next of kin have been notified.
The investigation remains active, and police are continuing to seek information from anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or knows something that could help detectives establish the full circumstances of the case.
Anyone with information can contact the Sacramento Police Department dispatch center at (916) 808-5471. Tips can also be provided to Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).

The arrest represents a major development in the investigation, but detectives are still working through evidence and witness information as they seek to determine exactly how the shooting unfolded on Arden Way Saturday afternoon.
