Sacramento County board of education launches search for successor to Superintendent David W. Gordon with public input at forefront

Published on

Sacramento, California – Sacramento County has begun to select its next top education leader, and officials want the public to help make that decision from the very beginning.

Current County Superintendent David W. Gordon has said he would retire on June 30, 2027. The Sacramento County Board of Education has officially begun the hunt for his replacement, keeping that deadline in mind. The Board has hired Leadership Associates, an executive search firm, to help with hiring and finding competent people for the effort.

Board members have made it clear that getting the community involved will be an important part of the process. They are asking families, students, teachers, district partners, and residents from across the county to submit their thoughts on what the next superintendent should do. Leaders said they want to create a leadership profile that shows what the Sacramento County school community as a whole needs and wants.

There are now several ways to give feedback. Through March 2, an anonymous online survey is accessible. This gives stakeholders a chance to say what they think are the most significant traits and attributes the future superintendent should have. The survey also asks for comments on the Sacramento County Office of Education’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as ideas on the local education system as a whole.

In addition to the survey, there will be community forums and virtual sessions to get more feedback. There will also be small, in-person talks with Sacramento County Office of Education personnel and important education partners via invitation.

Officials believe that all of the feedback they get throughout this phase will help them create the leadership profile that will be used to hire and choose new leaders. You may find more information about the search and the survey on the Sacramento County Office of Education’s website.
