Sacramento, California – A weeks-long investigation into a suspected illegal gambling operation in South Sacramento County ended with a search warrant, seized firearms, gambling machines, and more than $100,000 believed to be tied to unlawful activity, according to the information released about the case.
The operation, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, centered on a known problem location in the county, where authorities suspected an illegal gambling business was being run. After building the case over several weeks, the Central Division Problem-Oriented Policing Team, known as POP, served a search warrant at the site.

The effort was not carried out by one unit alone. Deputies worked with help from the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail and the Elk Grove Police Department, bringing together multiple teams for an operation aimed at shutting down a location that had drawn law enforcement attention.
Once inside, deputies found five firearms, numerous casino-style gambling machines, and electronic storage devices that may contain evidence connected to the suspected gambling business. Detectives also assisted at the scene, helping collect and preserve digital evidence from hard drives and other electronic media.

Authorities also seized gambling equipment and currency believed to represent more than $100,000 in illegal proceeds. The discovery points to an operation that investigators believe went beyond casual gambling and involved a larger flow of money.
The case also arrives at a sensitive time for Sacramento County law enforcement. Teams like POP, which focus on recurring neighborhood problems and targeted investigations, are now facing possible elimination because of county budget cuts. The timing has added another layer of attention to the South Sacramento County operation, especially for residents who see these teams as part of the response to problem properties and ongoing public safety concerns.

Budget hearings are scheduled for June 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers, located at 700 H Street. The future of teams such as POP is expected to be part of the broader discussion as county leaders weigh spending decisions.
For now, the investigation has produced a clear result: firearms, gambling machines, digital evidence, and a large amount of suspected illegal proceeds were taken from a location already known to authorities. What happens next will depend on the evidence collected, the work of detectives, and decisions made both in the justice system and at the county budget table.
